Creative Funk

"It'll pass, it all does." Some days feel as if you have no control over what will happen over the tenuous schedule throughout your day. As a creative; even with all the projects I have going on, you can still fall into a funk. When I was younger I would know I'd be falling into an uncontrollable funk when I'd be dreaming about food even after lunch. Breaking out of habits is what will create a new habit. When I feel as if I've invested my mind and matter into a situation too much I try to find the simpler things.

No matter what the content is, you may still find yourself in a funk, even if you are not a creative. I rely heavily on two things, my camera and my hobbies. Cycling is one of my favorite hobbies, and taking my camera with me on the adventure is the real plus. Allowing myself to interact with my trip, knowing that there is no time limit just to coast and feel the breeze and know why everyone else is out today; or the real question to ask, what is everyone doing out today?

One key to my successes is to be open to ideas and also hopefully others would be open to your ideas. I've had athletes, models, and regular joe's sometimes have some difficulty trying an additional idea for our session. What keeps my creativity ticking is my art for it all. I've always had a passion for sketching and love seeing great graphic design, I'm no graphic designer but some of the concepts I've seen I try to emulate into my photographs. The shapes and forms help me understand the simplicity we as humans must have when we interact with objects and other humans.

G.O.A.T

Remember the memories that created you and stood by you to become the person that you are. I love sports, and seeing your child hood icon close out his final chapter in his playing career is a big phenomena that lasted around the entire NBA. Kobe Bryant will forever be missed and is known to me especially; as the greatest of all time.

Iphone-ography at it's best

For this trip, I traveled to Milwaukee, which is about a 90 drive north of Chicago. Growing up being a constant Lakers fan drew me to the obsession of this game. You must find what fuels you and pushes your self motives and inspirations, not just related to your career but related to your life. We live once and we all must make the most of it with the magic we are supplied with; at all costs.

Independence

Currently, in this Chapter of the Sosa Chronicles. Chicago has been feeding me with a lot of regulatory inspiration which leads to creating fun imagery on the go.

Catching my Hometown Heros; Los Angeles Dodgers, as Ernie Banks silhouette looks on.

This past month I had a few friends visit me; including my photographer friend, Matt Douglas. It's somewhat interesting to see how people take the tourist approach on a lot of the cities most iconic monuments.

The selfie game is always a fun way for most people to do it, I would rather be the observer and see how some things play out. During the summer while everyone is out, I get to people watch on my breaks from Commercial Advertising with select companies and as my mind wanders, so does my camera.

Know Your Presence

Outside of my studio environment I must always have my special hats on. No I'm not talking about costumes, I just mean my hat of presence and of heightening my senses to notice the details of my surroundings.

I've been a man of many hobbies and interests. Yoga is a greater form of stretching to me; however, to many others it is a spiritual task and a greater understanding of ones body. Breathing alone is the key to being a yogi. This is where you need presence the most, where you tend to find the composition around the environment to create the story.

Always remember to smell the roses

And breath the air around.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Where should I begin. It's been an all around adventurous year on this side. From LA to Cleveland, Chicago along the way and wrapping things up with a very blissful shoot in San Francisco. Of course, travel takes a wear on you. It's something to take granted because you only live young once. The best part about travel is meeting all the new faces. It's truly a journey when see the world moving right around you.

From an Ad Campaign in for Fess Parker Double Tree September in Santa Barbara, CA is one of a kind magical.

My first S'more ever made! I think I've deserved the name "Chef Sosa!"

Everyone is on their own journey, each and everyday. Who really knows if their headed to the same places I'm going to. To find someone that's close to the same path as I am, can be a shot in the dark. What I've learned over time is to never be surprised! There's someone out there who could be your alter ego, just you wait. When I'm traveling I usually stick to my routine; a salad a day keeps the Giants at bay. However, trying something new does build our creative palette. Just like the time I was asked to create my own delicious S'MORE! Yes, I know. "Who hasn't made a S'more!" Mind you, I'm from Los Angeles, we only start fires during NBA Finals.

Flying High in the sky.

I was privileged enough to photograph Fleet Week up in San Francisco, CA! A plane sure was waiting for me. This was near the finale encore! The sun sure was bringing in some magic that day. I was on a boat pushed so far out in the waters, that you could practically leap onto Alcatraz.

Here are some of my favorites of the Blue Angels from that day!

Bill wasn't the happiest to see "The Rock". You win some, you lose some with a travel buddy.

The best part about that day was probably be so close to Alcatraz. I don't believe I've ever been so close to Alcatraz. Other than the golden gate bridge; Alcatraz, better known as, "The Rock", is the 2nd iconic symbol I think of when I think of San Francisco. It has held some of the most dangerous criminals in all the west coast because it was known as the hardest prison to escape. A lot of iconic movies and images have been captured here throughout the decades. Nowadays, it's known as a tourist escape. One that day for Fleet Week, it was jam packed with viewers to see the Finale!

What These Eyes Have Seen

Come with me and you will see!

It's been far too long, but then again sometimes you gotta disappear to start an Adventure. As the song says it, I am "Safe and Sound." My journey ahead was a very long one indeed, seeing as I left on January 1st! Let's start off by showing you how it all started.

Thanks to Roadtrippers I was able to set ahead and see how long it would take for me to get to certain destinations and how much gas it would take.

My philosophy lately in life has been to be as progressive as I can each day at a time, focused on the now and not the then. However, we all need change to advance in life. Yes, that is a risk in itself but it just has to be done if you want to "Level Up". That is what I stuck by, as I walked out the door one last time and packed up my life in literally 2 days.

Sayonara for now California.

Adventuring across the country in uncharted waters and unfamiliar territory.  On the journey ahead to see familiar faces and reconnect with old friends.

The game of Life isn't the easiest game in the world, if so we'd all be enjoying our cake by now. The journey ahead doesn't have to be a 1 person game. I luckily thought of this before hand, my friend so happened to be available to start a new chapter himself.

Bill the Adventurer, along for the wild ride ahead. What lies ahead for the both of us is just a mystery waiting to be solved.

That day I trusted my gut and left on the first day of the year to set off a new Chapter in my life. Who knows whats next for Bill and I, I'm just taking life one day at a time until I reach where I want to be next in life. For now, Adventure on and enjoy what's at hand.

Look forward for more of the Road Ahead; one last look of some California Beauty in the Mojave.

Happy Holidays!

The Holidays are underway in all parts near and far. Time to give back & go that extra mile! At the end of the day everyone wants to think of themselves but this time makes us think more about everyone else. Any sort of gift is a plus; that is how you have to think of it, you need to be memorable and creative and just give from the heart.

Welcome to Geppetto's workshop. Magic and Holiday Cheer passed around the Sosa life.

Here's a view into one of my workshops. Show your holiday spirit and get out, create it already!  To those that have to travel, safe paths ahead to and from whatever destination you choose to go to. Sure, everyone gets upset about traveling during holiday seasons. Although, it is about going "Home" wherever that may be; or, finding your true home and just having  a good time with friends and family. Either way have some fun!

During this cold winter time it's good to stay warm. Let's start that off by keeping your sweet tooth warm. It's good to sit out by the fire; kickback, relax and just enjoy what's in front of you and what's to come. We have to reflect on ourselves and how much we've done this past year.  Most importantly try to focus on what big adventures are to come! Wonder what bigger brighter spots to come in 2014! (No "burning" necessary)

From Me to You, Happy Holidays here at Sosaphoto and Have a Happy New Year!

Pub Crawl

This past week I found out one of my images made it all the way to Publication! Crawling my way into the editorial world. Thanks to the Fess Parker, published my work as an Ad insert for one of their unique accommodations!

Lately in life I've noticed a lot of my friends & family can't go to the next step in life & travel because of pets being by their side. A pet is more than a responsibility, they're a best friend for most and they must be along for the adventure, anyway possible! Fess Parker Double Tree is one of the only dog friendly hotels in Santa Barbara. If your ever in the area and need a weekend trip, just don't forget your best friend.

This shoot was a ton of fun for me. Both dogs that I photographed were some of the most outgoing and personable dogs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. What made this shoot fun was trying to keep the dogs calm, trying to get that scene that I pictured in my head to reality.

Hera, enjoying the view. ©Sosaphoto2013

The dogs are allowed on all parts of the property; however, there are certain buildings that allow the dog visitors residence of course. I'm sure Hera (above) loved the view she had that day. It sure was difficult to get her attention when the beach was literally across the street and the pool was right behind her. I know, so many options, so little time. Don't worry I'm sure she loved her stay either way.

Scarlett for Delivery! ©Sosaphoto2013

Don't try this at home! We conquered the impossible that day by getting Scarlett(above) on the luggage cart and keeping her nice and calm. She really wanted to see how hard the job was; apparently easier than she thought because she didn't have to do any of the pushing. For me, this shoot brought a lot of patience. Animals are a lot like children, you need to be calm around them but yet somehow pull their attention without having them get too excited.

Give Thanks & Tradition

This past week my life has felt like two completely different worlds. Thanksgiving, for me was a time to give back and give thanks to those who need that helping hand in life. I'm a big fan and supporter of helping out, especially those who truly need it. We all need a hand at something in life; may it be exercising, that extra push for a job, or even financially.

I was more than pleased to help out on my Thanksgiving to the Union Station Homeless Shelter. They had a Thanksgiving dinner in the park that day. Enjoy the show below and appreciate every moment ahead. Right now in life, I'm just trying to appreciate what's in front of me till this moment in time is all wrapped up and gone. Always try and stay focused on what's next at hand.

Volunteers coming in early to lend their time and give back.

A day to give back to thousands and just be grateful.

Some people volunteer as families to share the positive moment of helping others. This was Carmen and her sons first time giving back.

Huge turn out leads to a lot of happy faces. Entire families coming together for a free meal.

The reward of suppling Thanksgiving for the children & their families.

Thanks sure is a word often used lightly, but try to appreciate it the more and more you use it. Thanksgiving was also a great time to see families come together and create their own traditions so that they can bond together and stick closer and closer each year. I hope everyone I know out there had an Awesome Thanksgiving and just try and have this time to bring your families together and create your own tradition just like Carmen and her son volunteering for the first time and hopefully more to come!

Taking A Risk

Thanksgiving is right around the corner people! If you haven't noticed yet I sure love food. Sometimes you gotta take an edge and create something new with a twist. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to try some new recipes and get that food out the door. Just try and not make anyone sick by the end of the day. We want to keep everyone around for the next holiday.

Spice on the mind; ©Sosaphoto2013

I like some spice in my life, it keeps things interesting. Green, red, yellow orange who cares as long as we get that kick in the butt when you take that first chomp! I can be a basket case sometimes so these peppers fit perfect in a basket for 3. This isn't what I'm bringing to Thanksgiving because it can be more filling than the turkey itself; however, it sure was delicious. Wrap this sucker in bacon and if you want to stuff it with a hint of cheese and some chicken, it may just knock your socks off at the end of the night.

Active Lifestyle

Lately, I've felt rejuvenated. Most people would say I'm a morning person; I'd say I just love sunlight that much! You have to think of yourself in life as a plant, everyday you need sunlight and food to grow. Everyday needs to be a productive and kick butt kinda day! Sleep is for tomorrow, then again tomorrow never comes around when your having fun.

Get in that AM zone!

I did this shoot not to long ago in Santa Barbara for the Fess Parker Double Tree. I planned it out about 2 or 3 months in advance. Finding models and getting the location dialed in right on time. It was a really fun shoot for me. When people say they hate Monday's, I just laugh about it because as you see my Mondays sure are quite different from most.

Monday's are the WORST! Not for me.

An active lifestyle is the only lifestyle I know as of late. Everyone wants to know what's got me ticking as of late. Once you get all the kinks and distractions out of the way you start to focus on the main objective and really start to give it your all to one thing. I'm pleased that I can build on my career, hobbies and loves and yet really give it my all to what I love to shoot everyday! Keeping fit helps as well, it keeps my mind and body at peace and lets me focus on what I need to focus on in life.  This shoot really let me sink in to this idea and notion of where I'm at in life. Hope you enjoy the shots and get your fit on!

Get Your Fit On!

A Helping Hand

A few weeks ago I got the privilege of helping a hand on a fun shoot. I had to chase around kids, food; oh, and a dromedary named Bert.

The Patrol Challenge is where Boy scouts and Girl scouts all over Southern California get a list of clues and tasks they must complete in and around LA.  Scouts grow by each task they complete; although, adults are there every step of the way for guidance.

The best part about this event is that all the items collected by the troops were being donated to Charity. As well as canned goods. By the time we were getting ready to leave the event it was an amazement to see 4 truckloads worth of canned goods going to Charity! I'm glad I can lend a hand and always help a good cause!

Patrol Challenge 2013. Hosting Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts all over Southern California.

Troops had a list of items that had to be found and brought back. Just like a scavenger hunt, except some items were a little challenging. (Dinosaur poop, little brother or sister)

Kids getting creative as they had to create a Super hero and Arch enemy. Some Parents were the victims here or test subject.

One younger troop as they sing their troop anthem.

Bert, the dromedary. Patrol Challenge Mascot. Bert and I became really close friends at the end of all this.

Treat Yo' Self

Hope everyone had an eventful and fun Halloween! It's been a great month for me on this side. Tons of adventures throughout the jungle of LA and more.

Halloween is over so we gotta find something to do with our used pumpkins. Get creative with your pumpkins, I made this pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. The best part about this self project was getting the smoke/steam fresh off the chocolate chips as if it were fresh out of the oven. If you don't know yet, I've styled most of my own food shots myself and am growing at it each and everyday.

Right As It Bakes; ©Sosaphoto2013

Keep me posted and let me know if you guys do anything creative with your pumpkins.  The other fun part about this shoot was the lighting, I had a packed set with intricate lighting set ups and at one point it was started to look like a carnival haunted house.  That's what you need sometimes to get specific parts of the muffin to show off like the delicious warm chocolate chips that came fresh out of the oven.

Downtown Glow Run!

About a month ago I got the opportunity to shoot the LivingSocial 5K Glow Run!  The coolest thing about the 5k is that at the end of the race they had a dance party as well.

It was set in Downtown LA at the Historic Park.  The weather that night was historic in it's self; the harvest moon was just coming to an end and the clouds had been rolling in! Here are a select few of images from that night.

LivingSocial 5K Start, ©Sosaphoto2013

There was a very large turn out of runners.  There had to be multiple start off times because of the amount of people.  Luckily, I'm in somewhat of decent shape as of late since I had to catch up to some of the runners.

Take off!, ©Sosaphoto2013

I'm an architecture guy myself, so when I see the right moment for the best view I catch it! Towards the end of the race I got that opportunity; the racers were running through these dance tunnels that had changed colors and played music throughout.  It aligned perfectly with Downtown right as the runners were coming close to the finish line. Everyone charged full speed ahead!
