Portrait Session

Creative Funk

"It'll pass, it all does." Some days feel as if you have no control over what will happen over the tenuous schedule throughout your day. As a creative; even with all the projects I have going on, you can still fall into a funk. When I was younger I would know I'd be falling into an uncontrollable funk when I'd be dreaming about food even after lunch. Breaking out of habits is what will create a new habit. When I feel as if I've invested my mind and matter into a situation too much I try to find the simpler things.

No matter what the content is, you may still find yourself in a funk, even if you are not a creative. I rely heavily on two things, my camera and my hobbies. Cycling is one of my favorite hobbies, and taking my camera with me on the adventure is the real plus. Allowing myself to interact with my trip, knowing that there is no time limit just to coast and feel the breeze and know why everyone else is out today; or the real question to ask, what is everyone doing out today?

One key to my successes is to be open to ideas and also hopefully others would be open to your ideas. I've had athletes, models, and regular joe's sometimes have some difficulty trying an additional idea for our session. What keeps my creativity ticking is my art for it all. I've always had a passion for sketching and love seeing great graphic design, I'm no graphic designer but some of the concepts I've seen I try to emulate into my photographs. The shapes and forms help me understand the simplicity we as humans must have when we interact with objects and other humans.

One Direction

One Light Direction

The Everlasting One Light Portrait

In this excerpt I'm talking about One light imagery. I've been doing a lot of it lately and having the pleasure of keeping it simple. We all need some other pieces every once in awhile, my favorite piece is the all around edge light. It creates drama, mood and most importantly; direction.

The Goalie

Some of the most dynamic images; believe it or not, are one light scenarios. To see how the environment is used to supplement that scenario helps as well. It adds character and dimension to the subject matter. May it be as above the hockey player on a high key background, I wanted to add the story element as if he were on the ice getting ready for the game to start or at the end when there's nothing left the protector of the net.

Another example; as we're getting ready for the 2016 primaries, I wanted to create a dramatic one light image for the GOP. Giving the edge light the only attributes for our future candidate above. I let the flag create the direction for this image; since it is after all the subject in this one. It plays more of a key than the silhouette of the role player, seeing the our country makes us understand what we're going through right now with our GOP debates underway. There is no clear front runner so yet it is quite mysterious and ominous.

Progresiva-A Definition

Orlando Johnson, NBA Guard (UCSB 2011)

Long ago I learned a phrase called Progresiva! In Cuba, "Progresiva" was an Elementary through High School education program that most my grandparents family went to. This also included some college courses as well. Learning is always about progressing, each and everyday. You can never quit learning, even when we turn old and grey there's always something new to learn. All you can do is be open minded and take it all in. Always Progressing!

I had the privilege of photographing Orlando Johnson during my studies at Brooks Institute of Photography. Orlando is a prime example of "Progresiva". Then he was a top prospect for UCSB on his way into the NBA. Now, the team that drafted him; The Indiana Pacers, are in the playoffs. He got traded in the midst of the season but he helped get them where they're at now. Still to this day Orlando flourishes showing off his talents to the most of capabilities.

As the saying goes, "All for One, One for All". Progresiva isn't just for athletes, it's for all. Seen below is one of my close friends, Benjo Arwas. He too is another prime example of "Progresiva". He assisted me that day, furthering my series and helping make what it is today. Don't compare us; there's always room for another photographer in this world, as long as we progress with what we love.

Sosa 1.0 is what I like to say, in the steps of learning.

Now you know this saying I live by. Film for me has always lead my path and forever will, it is one way for my soul to speak. Looking into the past just brings insight of what else I need to do to get to where I want to be in life. I've come a long way since then, pushing my career to greater days and even getting a healthy mind on life. Take each day as a new day; a day to learn, progress, and most importantly KICK ASS!

Never Lose Sight

Each day we must go out to create our own stories. In some way we must leave our footprint in time, it's best to be remembered than forgotten. The ones that are remembered are only the ones that are forever moving forward. Some of us lose sight of this, just never forget it.

2014 Cleveland Indians Ad Campaign, "Unfinished Business".

I had the pleasure of photographing Richard; a die hard Tribe fan for "Unfinished Business", his joyous personality and charisma really made the images Golden! The few words you can share with someone, can truly be more impactful than one imagines. Our world is vast and large, some of us are discoverers or wanders while others may just be fine with sitting back and watching the world Tick!

UBS Corporate Headshots

UBS is one of the leaders in financial services. Once again, I had the opportunity of crossing paths with Richard one more time. Photographing corporate headshots high above Cleveland, watching the world below go round and round. As the saying goes; to each his own, who knows if Superman could be sitting right next to you. We each have different hobbies and interests, it's how you continue to grow after you've left your footprint.

Seasons A Changin'

"Nick Swisher, Unfinished Business"- Print Ad Campaign 2014

As you all know, there are only 4 seasons. After getting up and changing my whole atmosphere, my life had to transition and adjust to what was around me. Coming from the "Sunshine State", you gotta get out, network and love where you're at. However; what I've seen on the east coast, the masses were more than content trapping themselves in Hibernation until mother nature herself has transitioned.

Hollywood is a land where dreams are made and lives are changed. I on the other hand had grown up there, so I had to get out to see my dreams come true. My life gave me the privilege of photographing the Cleveland Indians Ad Campaign.

Forever A Pact

Marriage is more than a husband and a wife, it's a tying bond of unity and friendship.  We all need symbolism in our lives; just like a ring, it shows an everlasting bond for one another. When one is succeeding and striving all you can do as a spouse is support them. When one is down, the other is meant to pick the other one up and still support them; through dark times and bright times. This to me is the meaning of marriage.

Gabe & Larissa; engagement underway forever showing the joy for one another.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gabe and Larissa, a very fun loving couple. We spent a day around some of the most awe-inspiring spots around Cleveland Heights and Little Italy. I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to demonstrate their developed alliance for one another.

An engagement is a tie between one another; however, we cannot let the tie blind us of our own hobbies and passions. As a forever growing bond you just have to show your individualistic qualities and interests. Use this to intrigue one another and show that each day is a new day; a day worth learning, worth striving to new plateau's only we can get to with the forever bond and friendship that is created amongst one another.
